When the Sun Shines on the Snow

I have just been sorting thorough some photos and I came across a whole bunch that I thought you might like to see. They are a bit of a follow up to my last postcard post about our proper snow day which I wrote in January of this year.

Basically, the very next day after the snow dump, the sun came out and it was AWESOME!

Even nicer was the fact that Rob had never seen snow with the sun shining on it. We had snow in England of course but the weather is a few degrees warmer there and often the cloud cover was overwhelming so no sun.

Well on this occasion, the day was perfect so I told Rob and Daisy, “Rug up you two – we are going outside for a walk!”

It was honestly the most awe inspiring sight. Still air and crystal snow formations everywhere.

And the sort of clear air that leaves your lungs wondering if they have ever tasted anything so fresh and clear.

The sun was coming through the trees and was still at a pretty low angle so the world looked mightily different to usual.

And white! I have never seen anything so white! I guess that is one of the good things about living in the country. We were the first people to walk on this pristine landscape. Something had fallen from the heavens and cloaked our favourite places in magic. And we were the first to see (well in the photo above a farmer seems to have beaten us to it but I think that you know what i mean. the forest was ours).

I will never get tired of the wonder of this. Germany is beautiful all year round but winter is something special.

This may not happen for another year or two. It was quite a special event but I am glad that we were able to share it.

One lovely thing was coming across a tractor later on in the woods with people tobogganing. I thought that they might be taking children for a ride but no, they were all adults! About our age too. It was so nice and that is something that I love about the German people. They never lose their inner child. It is not unusual to see adults doing things like this and afterwards having ice cream.

As we came towards the evening, the sky was building up again. It did snow some more but without the sun, it was totally different.

Signing off until next time!

Hugs
